It’s 2013—seven years since I came home from Nakhodka, Russia. With this in mind, I’ve firmly resolved myself to focus on several areas I’ve ignored for too long. Consider them my primary New Years’ Resolutions: 1) I will embark on a “literal” odyssey to publish one (or all) of my three novels. 2) I will continue to build and promote ForwardWalking.com. 3) I will become more active in politics, publishing articles from my libertarian perspective. And 4) I will find my redemption in Russia .
A “Literal” Odyssey – Writing has always been a major part of my life. Truthfully, I have thousands of stories in head just waiting to come out! With the support and encouragement of my wonderful wife, I have written three of those stories and will be seeking publishers this next year. I call this journey a “literal” odyssey (it’s a play on words!). I will be making episodic videos about my adventures in writing and publishing. So yes, this means that Seth Adam Smith will return to making his humorous videos (just when you thought high school was over…)
ForwardWalking.com – A few months ago, I founded ForwardWalking.com, a blog dedicated to helping lift and inspire those who are trying to move forward in life. I am amazed its success and grateful for the ongoing contributions of such talented contributors (who will, undoubtedly, become great leaders). I plan to continue working with the contributors of ForwardWalking.com and have it become a strong force for good in the world.
Libertarianism – This past year, I’ve come to the realization that I’m a libertarian. Libertarianism, in one sentence, is the political belief that people should not be treated or controlled (by any individual or any institution) like property. Plain and simple. So while I tend to be more socially conservative, I believe that we should allow ALL people the freedom to choose what they will (provided they do not harm anyone). My political writings in the future will reflect this political perspective.
Russian Redemption – As some of you are aware, I came home a year early from my Mormon mission. My reasons for my return were medical but quickly dissolved into the spiritual. Since that time, I’ve had a desire to return to my mission field and find redemption. At the beginning of this year, a path to Russia has opened up to me and I am determined to follow it. As with my literal odyssey, I plan on making episodic videos that chronicle my Russian redemption.
My website will harmonize these four fields, as well as promote several other causes and areas of personal interest (love, adoption, literature, travels, faith, Mormonism, and a whole list of things I probably don’t even know about yet!).
P.S. I got a new camera for my birthday. Things just got real, people!
Triple Woot! This is going to be an awesome year! I’m excited to hear it all!
