In an unforgettable TEDx talk, James Ferrell (author of The Peacegiver) gets to the heart of all conflict, and offers practical, simple solutions to overcome our deepest challenges.
“The heart of all conflict is that our hearts have come to find advantage in conflict,” says James Ferrell. And the solution to the heart of conflict? Well, watch the video below…
In 2011, I had the honor of working with Jim on his presentation—no, not on the wording or the philosophy—but with the power-point stuff. Basically it went like this:
Jim: “Seth, could you move that over there?”
Me: “Uh, I think so.”
And so on and so forth. Glamorous, I know. But my suits aren’t as nice as Jim’s, so I let him give the actual presentation. You’re welcome! ;)
Jim’s been a family friend for a long time. My dad helped found Arbinger back in the early 90s. I remember going to the office one weekend when I was nine and totally crashing Jim’s computer because I downloaded a sketchy demo-version of the game Diablo. I wasn’t there for the fireworks, but I’m pretty sure my antics set Leadership and Self-deception back a couple of years (sorry about that!).
Jim’s a great guy who has done a lot of good in the world. His writing has profoundly influenced my own writing and thinking. In 2000, Jim wrote The Seven Paths of the ANASAZI Way, one of my favorite books. It changed my heart and helped me move forward during a very difficult time in my life. There’s really no way for me to thank Jim enough for that book (and his subsequent publications).
Of his speeches and presentations, my favorite is the one he gave at Southern Virginia in 2008. In it, he talks about the “divine paradox” of how up is down, and down is up when it comes to God. Even if you’re not religious, I encourage you to listen to it. It will tug at your heartstrings and help you see the humanity of others.
You can listen to it by clicking here.
Keep up the forward walking, Jim!
