2020 has been a challenging year, hasn’t it? For many of us, it’s easy to read (or hear) all of the negative headlines and get discouraged.
And while it’s okay to feel discouraged from time to time, please don’t give in to that discouragement. Don’t give up. Life can be depressing and difficult, but life is worth living.
How do I know that?
Well, in August of 2017, I hiked across the Grand Canyon—from South Kaibab Trail to North Kaibab Trail. For me, it was a way of recognizing a kind of “anniversary”—it had been nearly 11 years since I almost died by suicide.
While hiking, I thought a lot about my suicide attempt and everything that I had experienced during my 11 additional years of life. A few hours before reaching the summit of the North Rim, I sat down and recorded some of my thoughts (shown in the video below).
If you are struggling with depression, I hope these words inspire you to keep moving forward. There is so much beauty and wonder ahead of you.
Your life is worth living.
